November 2011

Dear Friends,
Susie is hounding me about “where is your article!” We didn’t even have fall yet and she is asking about an article for November/December. It’s hard to get all enthused about Thanksgiving and Christmas when it is still hot outside. Whatever……..It seems that I always say to myself, if I can get through this month, then I can relax. Not true. We had the Senior Expo, then project fresh, Michiganders day, empower day and now I’m being pushed by Susie again! When was I going to relax?

Our (MMAP) Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program Counseling services have sky rocketed! We are very lucky to have very knowledgeable counselors and are glad to be able to provide this service. During the sign up time we had at least 100 people come in to have us guide them to find the best policy for them. I realize that seniors get over whelmed with all the mail and confusing paperwork they get. Remember, I’m a senior and its crazy all the stuff that comes in the mail. So if we are able to help you to just be able to decide what to keep and what to throw away, that is great.

We are going to be working on fine tuning our services and seeing what other services we can do that will help in these times. It seems like we are unable to do anything about what the government decides, but at least we are all in the same boat. We are constantly looking for answers and hope that what we find out we can share with you to ease your burdens. Things will eventually turn around and hopefully we will have some peace soon.

Now on the upside and exciting things. My dog, Toby , still loves me. All that I have to give him is food, water and brushing now, and hugs real often. He is always very glad to see me. You know it’s not always that way with others.

Hope most of you can get out and see the “beautiful” colors. What a blessing. If you cannot get out to see them, take a moment right now to just close your eyes and see all the fall colors of reds, oranges, yellows & greens. Just relax and enjoy. You can even picture the mums. Oh what beauty we can see. Oh, by the way, I hope you have not taken your skies out yet because I have prayed that we do not get snow before the first of January. I know that Santa can take Dial A Ride everywhere so do not worry.

I wish all of you wonderful happy holidays. We are all doing more with less but smile every day and know that all of us from Council On Aging really do care!!!

Love, Bonnie
